Trusting God for the Impossible: George Müller’s Prayer Journal
Share
George Müller (1805–1898) cared for over 10,000 orphans in Bristol, England, without ever asking people for money - relying solely on prayer and faith. His detailed journals and annual reports documented thousands of specific answers to prayer.
For example, on a day of great need for the orphan houses he wrote:
“Being in great need, I was led, yesterday morning, earnestly to ask the Lord; and in answer to this petition a brother gave me, last evening, ten pounds.”
He also recorded his long-term prayers... prayers that took seemingly forever to receive answer:
“In November 1844, I began to pray for the conversion of five individuals… I prayed every day without a single intermission… (decades later, all five came to faith).”
Müller’s journaling reinforced childlike dependence on God. By recording needs and answers, he:
- Strengthened his faith through visible evidence of God’s faithfulness.
- Maintained perseverance in prayer, even when answers were delayed.
- Avoided taking credit for provision, always directing glory to the Lord.
- Modeled transparent trust that encouraged believers worldwide.
His written record turned ordinary days of waiting into a lifelong testimony that God still hears and answers prayer.
